The Mansfield Cedar
Hill Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was to
evolve shortly following the election of President Barack Obama
in 2009. An Obama celebration function was being held at
the home of Dr. Charles V. Shelton, Jr. where brothers Toney
Johnson, and John Wallace were in attendance. The three
brothers envisioned a new Kappa chapter that would inspire and
reclaim inactive Kappas in the south Dallas region. A few days
later Brother Victor Ponder was asked to share in this vision
which he did. There emerged four founders of the MAC Alumni
Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The goal intended was
to strive for training for leadership and moving Kappa to the
next level.
With an eagerness to
move swiftly Brothers Toney Johnson and Charles Shelton Jr.
attended the annual TNMCK meeting. During a break they arranged
a break with the Southwestern Province Polemarch Ron Julun.
There Brothers Johnson and Shelton made a request for the
potential chapter and expressed positive concerns and goals.
Province Polemarch
Julun indicated that he would seek feedback from nearby existing
chapters about our concern and investigate the possibility of
such a venture. He further indicated that he didn’t want a
temporary group of brothers that might not survive and thrive in
this venture. On the glorious day of March 7, 2009 Southwestern
Province Polemarch Ron Julun granted permission for the
chartering of the Mansfield-Cedar Hill Alumni Chapter of Kappa
Alpha Psi Fraternity. The original suggestion was for just the
Mansfield Chapter, but due to a significant number of inactive
Kappas living in the community of Cedar Hill that community was
included in the new purposed chapter. The founders decided to
refer to this potential new chapter as “The MAC.” Province
Polemarch Julun indicated that the possibility of a chartering
would have to occur quickly due to an upcoming Grand Board
Meeting scheduled. A required number of at least ten (10)
Brothers would have to be charter members, detail paperwork and
fees would be required and paid to the Province and Grand
Chapter. The MAC founders obtained a total of thirty-three
chartered brothers, submitted required paperwork and fees in a
timely order. On July 25, 2009 the Mansfield-Cedar Hill Alumni
Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. received their
charter at 4:00 P.M. from Southwestern Province Polemarch Ron
Julun.
